(No names, but names)

  • (No names, but names) is Debora Bolsoni’s first solo show in France. It is also the name of the main installation downstairs, around which we have built an exhibition which samples the importance of drawing in her practice. Bolsoni is largely known as an installation artist, specially for her tendency to use construction materials and everyday appliances by removing them from their ordinary contexts. By re-signifying tiles, trolleys, and trinkets we take for granted and engaging with them as the stuff of her work, she imbues them with a certain presence. These objects become recurrent characters in her work. Bolsoni has been learning from her object-subjects for years now, observing carefully how they carry themselves around and drawing them at it. Bolsoni’s relationship with drawing has not usually been highlighted. This exhibition hopes to tell the story of the gordian knot that ties drawing and sculpture in her practice; of their irresolvable entanglement. The story we are telling is therefore, above all, a story of silhouettes; of a line scratched onto a rocky wall to trace the presence of a hand, of a beast… or of a water dispenser or a wheelbarrow. Drawing and sculpture, saluting the paradox of presence/absence. Claudia Rodriguez-Ponga
